The “Holistic Development via Empowerment” project empowers rural communities through income generation, natural farming, women's self-help groups, education, healthcare, and participation in local governance, helping families build sustainable livelihoods and become more self-reliant.

The Holistic Development via Empowerment project, implemented by Samavesh in Khategaon, Madhya Pradesh, takes a community-led approach to addressing poverty, limited livelihood opportunities, inadequate access to education and healthcare, and low participation in local governance. The initiative aims to help villagers develop the skills and resources needed to improve their own communities rather than relying on external assistance. Samavesh's approach focuses on five interconnected areas: income generation, education, healthcare, local government involvement, and community engagement. The project aims to develop 10 Panchayats into more self-sustaining communities where residents can manage livelihood activities, participate in local decision-making, and take greater responsibility for their development. The project has reached 518 women through 51 Self-Help Groups, strengthening their leadership abilities and helping them participate in household financial management and village affairs. In agriculture, 264 acres have been transitioned to Natural Farming, benefiting 213 farmers by helping reduce cultivation costs while improving soil health. Education is another important component, with 11 Children's Activity and Learning Centers providing educational and developmental support to approximately 240 students, including access to libraries and learning activities. The project also promotes diversified livelihoods through goat rearing, backyard poultry, and kitchen gardens. Kitchen gardens have provided fresh and nutritious produce to approximately 428 families, while livestock and poultry activities offer additional sources of household income. Community participation has been strengthened through Gram Sabha (village council) meetings, enabling villagers to participate more actively in planning and decisions affecting their communities. Through these combined efforts, the project is helping farmers, women, and other community members move toward greater economic independence, environmental sustainability, and participation in local governance.
